Orthokeratology is a series of therapeutic contact lenses changes
which gently reshape the eye's front curvature (the cornea)
to reduce or eliminate nearsightedness and astigmatism. The
natural unaided vision is improved dramatically in days to weeks
with safe and effective results. Retainer lenses are worn as
necessary to stabilize the improvement.

Donald
H. Harris, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O.
Throughout his more than 35 year career in Optometry, Dr. Donald
Harris has devoted his energies toward the cause, prevention,
and correction of myopia (nearsightedness). He is one of the
pioneers of Orthokeratology and has utilized the procedure in
his private practice for nearly 30 years.
Dr. Harris is a past Chairman of the International Orthokeratology
Section (IOS) of the National Eye Research Foundation (NERF),
an organization he has been affiliated with since 1971. While
chairman of the IOS, Dr. Harris spearheaded an international
membership drive that resulted in greater expansion of the U.S.
membership, as well as the creation of the European and South
American groups of the IOS. Dr. Harris currently serves as public
relations chairman of the IOS. Dr. Harris is a fellow of the
American Academy of Optometry and the International Orthokeratology
Section of the National Eye Research Foundation. He is also
a member of the International Academy of Sports Vision.
A 1971 graduate of Pacific University School of Optometry in
Forest Grove, Oregon, Dr. Harris also earned a research masters
degree in physiological optics, which included a myopia research
study of the Point Barrow Alaska Eskimos.
Dr. Harris has also authored numerous professional journal articles,
and is co-author with Dr. Charles May and Dr. Joseph Nolan of
a text book, Orthokeratology, the only book of
its kind. Lecturing throughout the U.S., Europe, South America,
Australia and Asia has been an important part of his busy schedule.
Having recently returned from Asia (March 2000), Dr. Harris
received an award of recognition from the Hong Kong Ortho-K
Association, and from Beijing, China Ophthalmology.
In Hawaii, he chaired the International Orthokeratology and
Refractive Surgery Symposium (1992), a cutting-edge meeting
with experts from around the globe, discussing all methods of
changing the cornea and improving myopia. Dr. Harris also was
presented with the George Jesson Global Award for the best lecture
-"The Etiology, Prevention, and Correction of Myopia",
in Las Vegas at the 1991 NERF Meeting. He also received the
LEO award for excellence in clinical research.
An avid sports fan and former college tennis player, Dr. Harris
developed a home Vision Improvement Program (VIP) for athletes
and students. He has used VIP in his work with professional,
collegiate, and Olympic athletes. Dr. Harris has also filed
a patent application on "Computer Eyes", a computer glasses
program which reduces eyestrain while working with computer
monitors. Dr. Harris continues to be active in research. He
has been issued 3 patents on Enzyme Orthokeratology (Corneaplasty).
Dr. Harris is actively involved in the research of this procedure,
as a founder of Advanced Corneal Systems, (now called Ista Pharmaceuticals
Inc.) Recently Dr. Harris developed a series of eye improvement
programs as an adjunct to corneal reshaping.

Lynn
Davies is an experienced Certified Optician, and lends her expertise
to Dr. Harris's specialized practice.Lyn
began working for Dr. Harris in 1996. She has been certified
by the American Board of Opticianry since 1995. As well as managing
the office, Lyn conducts patients through the computerized pre-testing
procedure and provides eyeglass fittings. Lyn has been instrumental
in bringing the services of the Newport Beach Optometric Eye
Care Center to the Internet. Lyn is also an accomplished guitarist,
and performs and teaches locally.
