ORTHOKERATOLOGY
(ORTHO-K)
What is Ortho-K?
Ortho-K is a non-surgical contact lens therapy that may improve
your natural unaided vision in hours, days or weeks. Nearsightedness
(myopia) and astigmatism are reduced or eliminated. Ortho-K
contact lenses have a unique design that encourages the eye's
front curvature (cornea) to gently change shape, improving vision.
The accelerated Ortho-K program uses a series of contact lens
changes in a period of days and weeks to rapidly improve your
natural vision. Retainer lenses are worn on a part-time basis
to retain the improvements. The procedure is safe and effective
and has been researched and approved.
Benefits
- After
correction, you simply see better without help from
glasses or contact lenses.
- Vision
improvements occur rapidly in days and weeks.
- Free
of surgical risk, the process is convenient and comfortable,
not disrupting your visual performance as your eyes
are being improved.
- All
ages benefit
- Natural
vision for recreation, sports, and leisure.
- Occupational
unaided vision demands may now be met--pilots, policemen,
firemen, etc.
- Preventative
vision care for children.

Results
Most of the visual changes occur rapidly in the first few days
and weeks, requiring frequent examinations and progressive lens
changes. Stabilization procedures then follow at a slower pace
over the next few months. The program length varies between
3-12 months, depending on the degree of the visual error. Mild
and moderate degrees of myopia (20/400 or better) may be corrected
to 20/20 or 20/30 unaided visual activity. Higher degrees of
myopia may achieve dramatic improvements, but will require more
continued lens wear. Most mild or moderate astigmatism conditions
can be reduced or eliminated successfully.
Post Treatment
After treatment and maximum desired results are achieved, retainer
contact lenses (like retainers on teeth) are worn as necessary
to stabilize the results. After full time retainer lens wear,
a systematic reduction of daytime wear occurs. Final retainers
may be worn part time during the day or at night during sleep.

Contact Lens
Design & Modification
A large inventory of contact lenses
is available for one-day service. Improved high oxygen
permeable materials, along with new designs, have revolutionized
the contact lens field. Comfort is improved dramatically and
symptoms reduced. Extended wear soft and hard lenses have been
approved for sleeping. Better quality materials allow us sophisticated
modifications and you better contact lens wear.
All types of rigid gas permeable and soft lens materials are
researched and available to you, the patient, in our office.
Bifocal hard, gas permeable, and soft lenses of all types are
available. As a pioneer in bifocal contact lens fitting for
30 years, Dr. Harris' success rate is excellent.
Our contact lenses are custom designed for your individual case:
| STEP
ONE: |
Manufacture
the lens from a button, create base curvature, power,
size, and thickness. |
| STEP
TWO: |
Meticulously
design the contact lens for your specific cornea. Precision
design of peripheral curves, and edge contour. |
| STEP
THREE: |
In
our office laboratory, we modify your lenses to custom
fit your cornea. High-tech equipment is used while you
wait. |
Better Follow Up Care
The key to contact lens success is thorough follow-up care:
- Quality
doctor and technician patient control.
-
Accurate fitting and vision analysis.
-
In-office contact lens modification.
- Better
patient education.
|
DESIGNER EYEWEAR
To complete our full service vision care, the finest high fashion
frames are available for your choice. The newest lens types
are also offered:
- No
line progressive bifocals.
- Special
tints.
- Thinner
and lighter lenses.
- Scratch
resistant coatings.
- Ultra-violet
absorption lenses.

PREVENTIVE VISION CARE
Preventive procedures at an early age may eliminate the
need for optical aids. Progression of visual errors can be retarded.
Such procedures include:
- Regular
eye examinations.
- Environmental
controls.
- Vision
therapy.
- Anti-stress
reading lenses.
- Contact
lens therapy - Orthokeratology.

VISION THERAPY
Home and in-office vision therapy exercises developed by
Dr. Harris, are used to improve the following vision skills:
- Eye
movements.
- Convergence
(aiming) skills.
- Focusing
(accommodative) skills.
- Depth
perception.
- Peripheral
vision.
- Hand-eye-body
coordination.
- Perceptual

SPORTS VISION
Good athletic skills are predicated upon better vision skills.
A unique sports vision training program, developed by Dr. Harris,
is available for your use. It combines home vision training
with on the field training. All equipment and a training manual
are included.
OCCUPATIONAL VISION
Increased productivity means better visual efficiency. In today's
business world of vision display terminals and excessive close
work, eye-strain and progressing vision problems are the hallmark.
Specific prevention training programs for your particular job
requirements are available.
CHILDREN'S VISION
We offer programs to enhance children's academic performance
through improved visual efficiency, and prevent myopia progression.
Our goals are to encourage smoother eye movements, improve aiming
and focusing skills, and reduce eye-strain and fatigue.
NEW RESEARCH - CORNEAPLASTY
Dr. Harris continues to research Corneaplasty in the F.D.A.
clinical trial. An enzyme is administered to the cornea to render
it more pliable. Therapeutic contact lenses then reshape the
cornea for normal vision. A stabilizing agent is then administered
to render the cornea rigid again in its new shape with stability.
Retainer lenses are eliminated. Nearsightedness and astigmatism
are reduced or eliminated, and the natural unaided vision is
improved dramatically. Corneaplasty is non-surgical with excellent
safety and efficiency. This biochemical change of the cornea
appears to be reversible also.
Our web site will keep you up to date with Corneaplasty research
and the F.D.A. clinical trial. Dr. Harris is an original patent
holder and a founder of the company--Advanced Corneal Systems
(now called ISTA) that is developing this technology. Please
contact us if you are interested
in participating in our ongoing research. |
